Frequently Asked Questions

  • “Neurodivergent” describes people whose brains process, learn, or experience the world differently than what’s considered “typical.” This can include (but is not limited to) autism, ADHD, dyslexia, OCD, anxiety, epilepsy, Down syndrome, and many other cognitive and sensory differences.

Being neurodivergent isn’t something to fix — it’s simply a different, valid way of thinking and being.

  • Person-centered support means the services and assistance you receive are built around your goals, preferences, strengths, and needs. Instead of fitting you into a pre-made system, supports adapt to your life — who you are, what you want, and how you want to live.

In Minnesota, DHS emphasizes that person-centered practices help people:

    • Live, learn, work, and participate in their communities in ways they choose.

    • Maintain meaningful relationships, build independence, and engage in what matters to them.

    • Make informed choices about when, how, and by whom support is provided.

Person-centered support is flexible, creative, and evolving — it’s not a fixed plan but a way of working that keeps you at the center.
